A major milestone has been achieved by the installation of a new footbridge adjacent to Broadbridge Primary School in Derry.

Pupils from Broadbridge PS with DRD Roads Service help Lagan Construction 'lift footbridge into place'!
The footbridge will provide an essential link for pedestrians across the new dual carriageway. In particular, it will facilitate safe access for children to and from the Primary School. The installation has been programmed to coincide with the pupils at the school returning for their new school term. Today the headmaster and pupils of the Broadbridge Primary School witnessed the bridge being lifted into place. Work on a £25m dualling scheme between Maydown and City of Derry Airport, being carried out by Lagan Construction Ltd, is well on track for completion before the end of this year.
The scheme which commenced in May 2009 consists of the provision of 6.5km of dual carriageway, 6km of side roads, 3 major roundabout junctions and 6 new structures. All of the six new structures on the scheme are substantially complete along with 90% of the side roads.
It is expected that in the region of two thirds of the new dual carriageway will be open to traffic in the next few weeks.

Harding Memorial PS & Edmund Rice PS 'Time to Read' Visit to the Cross Town Main Scheme
The pupils are working with Lagan Contruction as part of the ‘Time to Read’ programme which helps young people improve their literacy skills. The business is among the many Northern Ireland organisations to encourage employees to volunteer to help children get to grips with reading.
In line with its commitment to educating young people about the wider world of work, Lagan Construction invited the children from Harding Memorial Primary School and Edmund Rice Primary School to see at first hand how the new pipeline at Old Milltown Road is progressing.
Northern Ireland Water’s £2.5 million project will see the construction of a 2.8km trunk main from Barnetts Park to Purdysburn to reinforce the link from Dunore Water Treatment Works.
The pupils were accompanied on the visit by their teachers, Lagan Construction ‘Time to Read’ volunteers Nicola McDermott and Karen Dilworth as well as Catriona Daly, John Johnston and Hugh Martin McAlary, also of Lagan Construction.

Children from a Ballymena primary school will have a chance to learn about sources of renewable energy at a special presentation by the companies behind the development of nearby Garves Wind Farm.

Lagan Construction, which delivered the 15MW wind farm in 2008, and operators Duncan Plant have come together as part of National Wind Week (12th to 20th June 2010) to help young people understand the huge benefits of harnessing nature to provide energy for the future.
The pupils learned how wind energy – a valuable natural resource – is set to play an increasingly more important role in our lives. They also got a unique insight into how the £2.2 million wind farm was built and commissioned, including some of the challenges that were overcome during its construction.
As part of their support for local communities, Lagan Construction and YEL are dedicated to educating young people about the wider world – including issues affecting the environment such as dwindling natural resources and sustainability.
To mark Wind Week they have also joined forces with Ballymoney Borough Council and Dunloy Development Association to host a four-mile circular walk in the vicinity of Garves Wind Farm to enable local people to find out more about energy efficiency and renewable technologies. The walk started from St Joseph’s Parish Centre Car Park, Dunloy at 7.00pm on 16th June 2010.
