Footbridge over the A2 dual carraigeway lifted into place

A  major milestone has been achieved by the installation of a new footbridge adjacent to Broadbridge Primary School in Derry.

Pupils from Broadbridge PS with DRD Roads Service help Lagan Construction 'lift footbridge into place'!

The footbridge will provide an essential link for pedestrians across the new dual carriageway. In particular, it will facilitate safe access for children to and from the Primary School. The installation has been programmed to coincide with the pupils at the school returning for their new school term. Today the headmaster and pupils of the Broadbridge Primary School witnessed the bridge being lifted into place. Work on a £25m dualling scheme between Maydown and City of Derry Airport, being carried out by Lagan Construction Ltd, is well on track for completion before the end of this year.

The scheme which commenced in May 2009 consists of the provision of 6.5km of dual carriageway, 6km of side roads, 3 major roundabout junctions and 6 new structures.   All of the six new structures on the scheme are substantially complete along with 90% of the side roads.

It is expected that in the region of two thirds of the new dual carriageway will be open to traffic in the next few weeks.
