Bindoo Wind Farm

Client:Airtricity
Contract Period: April 2006 – March 2007
Contract Value: £6.4 million

Project Description:
Bindoo Windfarm in County Cavan was one of the largest wind farm construction projects in Ireland, operating 32 wind generator turbines of 1.5 MW each, creating a total output of 48 MW and capable of powering 30,000 homes.

The £6.5 million project for Airtricity was delivered on a single elevated site situated within a farming district in which there are 25 landowners and 22 different access points to the turbines from public roads.

Thanks to good planning and communication, we completed the project ahead of programme with minimum disruption to the community and local wildlife habitats.

The turbines were erected on 220m3 RCC concrete octagonal foundations connected by a network of 20 kV and fibre optic cables to a 110 kV substation which is in turn connected to the national grid. This operation alone required the laying of 30km of ducts and 70km of medium voltage cables.
