Lagan Construction has recently been declared the winner of the People Development category in the prestigious Belfast Telegraph NI Business Awards. The judging panel commented on our “…culture of systematic people development and empowerment [which] leads to improved bottom line results”.

Our continuous professional development (CPD) programme and graduate scheme provide the skills and knowledge to help individuals reach their full potential and do a better job for the company.
ICE Approved Training Centre for Chartered Status
We are an approved training centre for the Institution of Civil Engineers. This allows us to offer graduate engineers the opportunity to become chartered and we currently have over 20 Graduates working their way towards ICE Chartership status.
Principles of the Scheme: It is entirely competence-based. For this reason the training scheme revolves around Development Objectives, which contain the essential competences required for Civil Engineering. It is also a principle that the graduates themselves should drive their development. We believe the Company’s responsibility is to provide graduates with opportunities and give guidance, but they have to be determined and self-motivated individuals to take full benefit from what we offer.
ICES Approved Training Centre for Chartered Status
We were also recently approved by the Institution of Civil Engineering Surveyors to run their scheme to allow our Surveyors to become chartered. The scheme was launched in 2008 and all eligible commercial employees attended.
Principles of the Scheme: Similar to ICE, the scheme is entirely competency based.
It provides a structured framework for on-going personal development, using a practical/hands on approach, The scheme also provides a support network (internal & external), gives access to resources and courses, and leads to Professional Accreditation.
Further and Higher Education
Lagan Construction supports many employees undertaking Further and Higher education, courses including HNC in Civil Engineering; MSc Law and Arbitration; MSc in Project Management and BSc in Quantity Surveying.
The company welcomes requests for this type of training from employees, and where it brings benefits to both the company and the individual applications are approved and sponsored.
