Graduate & Student Opportunities

QUB Students receiving the Lagan Construction sponsored annual Surveying Prize 2009

We have a strong tradition of helping students and graduates to take their first career steps, and develop successful and varied careers within civil engineering.  Many of our managers – and one of our Board Directors – have worked for Lagan since they were graduates.

Each year our Graduate Engineers and Quantity Surveyors have the option to follow a tailored ICE, CIOB or ICES approved training programme, which combines hands-on work experience, mentor counselling, in-house training and support to obtain a professional accreditation.

Students on year and summer placements gain a wealth of practical experience through taking an active role on projects and being mentored by more experienced colleagues.  Many subsequently choose to return to us to begin their careers when they graduate.

“Since graduating, I have been heavily involved in ICE activities.  The events include visits to schools in Northern Ireland, meetings in the Institution of Civil Engineers offices in London, and meetings here in Northern Ireland.   Lagan Construction have been hugely supportive of my efforts with the ICE, encouraging me to participate and being flexible in my attendance at events”.

Emer Owens, Graduate Engineer

Although we are not currently recruiting graduates and students for 2011-12, please do check back regularly as vacancies may arise in the future.  We generally recruit students of Civil Engineering, Quantity Surveying and Construction Management, although other similar disciplines within the construction field will be considered.

In addition to helping students and graduates take their first career steps, Lagan Construction also supports students through various bursary schemes and academic prizes. These include:

QUB – ICE – QUEST Scholarship

In association with Queen’s University Belfast, the Institute of Civil Engineers and QUEST, we annaully sponsor a student throughout university life, including the opportunity of a placement year and summer work.

QUB Prize
