10K race along the Newry Bypass!
Over 400 athletes of all ages and abilities took to the roads on Sunday 27th June to avail of the one and only chance to run legally & safely down the middle of the newest road in Northern Ireland. Lagan Ferrovial Joint Venture assisted in sealing off the now complete Newry Bypass, between the Camlough and Sheepbridge bridge structures, to allow this unique event to take place.
Lagan Construction is delivering the design and construction works on the £250M DBFO2 Roads Scheme as part of the Lagan Ferrovial joint venture. Part of the works includes the upgrade of the existing A1 road infrastructure between Sprucefield and Cloghogue, including the provision of a new outer by-pass of the existing dual carriageway at Newry.
Under a blue sky the field of runners raced along the empty dual carriageway for a calibrated distance of 10 kilometres. The winner of the men’s race was Newry’s own Eamon White and the ladies race was won by local athlete Julie Turley. Also competing was Lagan Ferrovial’s very own Juan De Torres and Jose Bartholome , pictured below.
